Plan notes
Useful context before you go
This source-faithful route follows the creator's 12-day structure: four nights in Porto, four nights in Lisbon including Sintra, and four nights in the Algarve, flying into Porto and home from Faro to avoid backtracking. Pack one airline-compliant carry-on and one personal item, plus a secure sling or belt bag. The trip mixes historic neighborhoods, food and wine, palaces, coastal viewpoints, beaches, hiking and kayaking. Reserve the Douro Valley, Sintra guide and Benagil kayak tour ahead; Sintra and Lisbon can be especially crowded. For the Algarve, a rental car is central to reaching beaches, villages and trailheads. The creator specifically recommends a Porto food tour, a Douro Valley small-group trip with two contrasting wineries and a boat ride, a guided Sintra visit, and a kayak rather than a larger boat for closer access to the caves.
