Plan notes
Useful context before you go
Uluwatu works best as a single-base coastal trip with transport on call, not a walk-everywhere stay. The hilltop accommodation in the source was about a 5-minute ride from the main road and had lots of stairs, so sort out a scooter or driver before you go. Start beaches early: Thomas Beach was high-tide and rocky, and Padang Padang was much quieter around 7:30 am. Treat several shoreline stops as scenery-and-lounging days rather than swim days because rough surf, rocks, and tide shifts can change the mood fast. Pack a sarong or cover-up for Uluwatu Temple, keep glasses and other loose valuables away from the monkeys, and arrive well before the 6:00 pm Kecak show if you want any chance at door tickets. Keep cash handy for loungers, small entries, and minimum-spend terraces, and a fee-transparent card helps because some places are cash only. If bugs or centipedes are a dealbreaker, check recent reviews carefully before booking a cliffside room.

What is in this plan
Days 1-2: Hilltop Base, First Beaches & Cafe Stops
Use these first days as a beach-and-base phase: settle into the hilltop stay, line up transport because the property is not walkable, and hit Thomas Beach and Padang Padang early before the tide and crowds get annoying. Alchemy makes sense as the relaxed meal stop after a rainy morning, and Kynd works as the flexible breakfast or brunch anchor. The accommodation looks great but had enough bug and centipede drama that recent reviews matter. Weather can flip fast here, so leave one afternoon loos…

Uluwatu Sunset HillsUluwatu Sunset Hills, Pecatu, Bali, Indonesia
Big open studio with a kitchen, lounge, outdoor deck, bathtub in the middle, fridge, pans, and induction stove; the four-night rate was about 660 AUD, it sits about a 5-minute bike or car ride from the main street, and the centipede issue makes recent reviews worth checking before you book.

The upper level is worth the stairs for the ocean view; that is where the pool, umbrellas, gym, and hot tub are. The higher rooms are the ones that buy you this outlook.

Thomas BeachThomas Beach, Pecatu, Bali, Indonesia
A short scenic stop, but check the tide first — the loungers were getting soaked, the water was rough, and sharp rocks were enough to draw blood on bare feet. This is a great place to pause, not to assume a perfect swim day.

A relaxed meal stop between beach runs, especially after rain or a massage. It is an easy place to reset before heading back out.

Padang Padang BeachPadang Padang Beach, Pecatu, Bali, Indonesia
Go first thing in the morning if you want the quiet version of this famous Eat, Pray, Love beach. The cliff walk is much nicer before the crowd and midday heat arrive.

Order the vegan Big Boss breakfast, hazelnut iced latte, and Blue Crush if you want the exact morning spread from the trip. This is a strong breakfast or brunch anchor before another beach day.

Days 3-5: Remote Beaches, Sunset Lookouts & Temple Night
Use the back half for the more dramatic coast: Nyang Nyang is a steep descent, Happy Sunset rewards the woods path, Suluban is your surf-bar sunset zone, and Uluwatu Temple is the only hard deadline on the trip. Keep cash handy for loungers, entry fees, and minimum-spend terraces, and don't gamble on a late arrival if you want the 6:00 pm dance. Juwata and Zali make sense as dinner bookends.

Nyang Nyang BeachNyang Nyang Beach, Pecatu, Bali, Indonesia
Park at the top or let a driver take you down, because the hill is very steep and the walk back up is a workout. It is better as a long lounge-and-read stop than a swim stop, and the sun loungers with umbrella were 200 for two beds and the shade.

Happy SunsetHappy Sunset, Pecatu, Bali, Indonesia
Type Happy Sunset into Google Maps, park, and follow the woods to reach the better vista. If you want fewer people, the lower rock descent is more private, but it is also more sketchy.

Suluban BeachSuluban Beach, Pecatu, Bali, Indonesia
This is the surf-and-sunset area with bars and restaurants all around the stairs. The entry was 5,000 per person, and high tide can block access to the inlets, so build in a tide check if you want to explore beyond the main steps.

Italian dinner with ocean views and a 500,000 minimum spend to sit on the terrace. It is easiest to justify when you already plan to order starters, drinks, and mains.

If you want the nightly Kecak show, do not cut it close — the 4:45 pm queue for the 6:00 pm performance was already huge and the door tickets had sold out. Bring a sarong or cover-up, keep your glasses, phone, and other loose valuables tucked away, and stay alert around the monkeys inside the temple area.

A strong final-night reservation if you want falafel, hummus, and baba ghanoush after a day of cliff walks and temple timing. It was one of the standout meals of the trip.
