Plan notes
Useful context before you go
This source-faithful plan combines Lefkada's beaches, dramatic cliffs, mountain villages, waterfalls, monasteries, and a sea day. A rental car is useful for the remote west and south coast, especially Porto Katsiki, Egremni, and Cape Lefkatas. Bring sturdy shoes and plenty of water for the Milos Beach walk, sun protection and drinks for exposed beaches, and an umbrella for Porto Katsiki because beach shade is brought by visitors. Check local opening hours for the Archaeological Museum, Faneromeni Monastery museum area, and Karya's small folklore museum. Boat routes and swimming stops depend on sea conditions and the selected departure schedule.
Itinerary highlights
What is in this plan
Days 1-2: Lefkada Town, Fortress and Northern Coast
Base in or near Lefkada Town for an easy introduction. Explore the waterfront and marina in the cooler evening, then combine Faneromeni Monastery and the northern coast before beginning longer west-coast drives.
-
Lefkada TownLefkada Town, Lefkada, Greece
Begin with a relaxed walk through the colorful buildings, smaller streets, waterfront, cafes, restaurants, and marina. This is best approached without a strict sightseeing schedule and feels particularly comfortable in the evening when the heat drops.
-
Lefkada MarinaLefkada Marina, Lefkada, Greece
Use the marina and nearby main streets as a low-pressure first walk, with time for a coffee, drink, or simple meal beside the boats.
-
Archaeological Museum of LefkadaArchaeological Museum of Lefkada, Lefkada, Greece
Visit the Archaeological Museum for a short cultural stop featuring old pots and other archaeological objects.
-
Agia Mavra FortressAgia Mavra Fortress, Lefkada, Greece
Walk around this historic fortress roughly a kilometer from town as a contrast to the island's beach stops.
-
Faneromeni MonasteryFaneromeni Monastery, Lefkada, Greece
Stop at the hilltop monastery for its white buildings, quiet courtyard, gardens, church, and views toward Lefkada Town, the lagoon, and the coast. Check whether the small museum area is open.
-
Kathisma BeachKathisma Beach, Lefkada, Greece
Spend the main beach portion of this phase at Kathisma: swim, use the nearby parking, beach bars, restaurants, sunbeds, and umbrellas, or walk farther along the long beach for a somewhat calmer spot. Paragliding is also available above the beach.
Days 2-3: Agios Nikitas and the Wild West Coast
Stay around the west coast for access to Agios Nikitas, Milos Beach, and Egremni. The Milos approach is hot and sweaty, while Egremni requires either a demanding road-and-stairs approach or a boat from Nidri or Vasiliki.
-
Agios NikitasAgios Nikitas, Lefkada, Greece
Wander the narrow streets of this traditional coastal village, browse its small shops, eat at a taverna, and swim at the easily accessible village beach.
-
Milos Beach TrailMilos Beach Trailhead, Agios Nikitas, Lefkada, Greece
Take the hill walk from Agios Nikitas when sea conditions do not suit the small boat. Wear proper shoes and carry water because the route can be hot, hard, and sweaty.
-
Milos BeachMilos Beach, Lefkada, Greece
Reach this less-developed beach by the hill trail or by a small boat when sea conditions allow. Expect a wilder setting, bright blue water, and fewer facilities than the easier beach stops.
-
Porto KatsikiPorto Katsiki, Lefkada, Greece
Use the viewpoint above the beach before descending the stairs. Go early or late in the afternoon to reduce peak-summer crowds, and bring your own umbrella, drinks, and food because the beach shade is visitor-provided.
-
Porto Katsiki CoastlinePorto Katsiki Coastline, Lefkada, Greece
View Porto Katsiki's coastline from the sea if choosing a boat approach; this reveals the cliffs and beach from a different angle and avoids making the stop only a stair descent.
-
Egremni BeachEgremni Beach, Lefkada, Greece
Visit this long west-coast beach for enormous cliffs, blue water, and an open raw landscape. A boat from Nidri or Vasiliki is a practical alternative because parking can be far from the stairs and the steep road is demanding in summer.
Day 4: Cape Lefkatas and the Southern Cliffs
Dedicate a slower driving day to the southern tip. The remote road and exposed cliffs reward careful timing, especially if staying for sunset and driving back afterward.
-
Cape LefkatasCape Lefkatas, Lefkada, Greece
Drive to the southern end of Lefkada for the rugged viewpoint where steep white cliffs meet the Ionian Sea. Treat this as a scenic drive and photo stop rather than a beach or town visit.
-
Cape Lefkatas LighthouseCape Lefkatas Lighthouse, Lefkada, Greece
Walk to the lighthouse near the edge for the defining landmark of the cape. Sunset can be beautiful, but allow enough daylight and confidence for the remote return drive.
-
Cape Ducato ViewpointCape Ducato Viewpoint, Lefkada, Greece
Pause at the open-sea viewpoint around the lighthouse for the windy, rugged atmosphere and uninterrupted views across the Ionian Sea.
-
Cape Lefkatas Scenic DriveCape Lefkatas Scenic Drive, Lefkada, Greece
Use the southern cape as a deliberate photo stop: cliffs, lighthouse, wind, and open water provide a distinctly different visual mood from the crowded swimming beaches.
-
Cape Lefkatas Sunset ViewpointCape Lefkatas Sunset Viewpoint, Lefkada, Greece
If visiting at sunset, leave a conservative driving window afterward. The area is remote and is not suited to an unplanned late-night return.
-
Cape Lefkatas Coastal EdgeCape Lefkatas Coastal Edge, Lefkada, Greece
Keep this stop focused and atmospheric: the special quality is the feeling of standing at the island's edge rather than the number of attractions to cover.
Day 5: Karya, Nidri Waterfalls and the Eastern Sea
Finish with Lefkada's inland and eastern side. Pair the cooler mountain village with the waterfall walk, then use Nidri for a slower boat day among nearby islands, sheltered water, caves, villages, and swimming bays.
-
Karya VillageKarya Village, Lefkada, Greece
Explore this traditional mountain village for narrow streets, stone houses, small shops, tavernas, and a village square. The cooler, quieter setting provides a strong contrast to the west-coast beaches.
-
Karya Village SquareKarya Village Square, Lefkada, Greece
Look for local embroidery and handmade textiles, then pause for coffee under the trees. A small folklore museum may be available if open.
-
Nidri Waterfalls TrailNidri Waterfalls Trail, Nidri, Lefkada, Greece
Follow the rocky, green path through trees and shade to the waterfall. The walk is part of the experience and offers a peaceful change from the exposed beaches.
-
Nidri WaterfallsNidri Waterfalls, Nidri, Lefkada, Greece
Reach the small pool at the end of the path for a possible summer cool-off. Water volume varies by season and may be stronger after rain or earlier in the year.
-
Nidri Boat TripNidri Port, Nidri, Lefkada, Greece
Start the eastern-coast sea excursion from Nidri. Choose a route with nearby islands, sheltered water, swimming stops, caves, small villages, or quiet bays depending on the day's offering.
-
MeganisiMeganisi, Greece
Include Meganisi when the selected boat route visits it. The island is part of the calmer eastern seascape and is best experienced from the water rather than rushed as a separate inland stop.
-
MadouriMadouri Island, Lefkada, Greece
Look for Madouri on routes that include nearby islands. The boat perspective is the point of the stop, with calm water and changing views along the eastern side.
-
ScorpiosScorpios Island, Greece
Scorpios may be included depending on the boat itinerary. Treat it as part of the broader eastern-island panorama, alongside swimming and quiet-bay stops when offered.
