Plan notes
Useful context before you go
This is a source-faithful, photography-first safari following a 10-day route through Makgadikgadi Pans, the Okavango Delta and Panhandle, Tsodilo Hills, and Chobe National Park. Pack a telephoto zoom or prime, wide lens, teleconverter, two camera bodies if available, spare batteries, memory cards, a compact tripod, dust protection, and warm layers for pre-sunrise drives and cold salt-pan nights. Sunrise and sunset are the strongest light for wildlife and landscapes. Lodges generally offer optional morning and afternoon game-viewing activities, with a late-morning break for lunch and rest. Follow guide instructions, never walk around camp alone after dark, and use an escort when moving between your room and lodge facilities. The dry-season and winter period of July through September is recommended for the seasonal Okavango flooding and concentrated wildlife near water. A tailor-made safari specialist can adapt this route for different budgets and durations.

What is in this plan
days 1-2 Makgadikgadi Pans wildlife and salt-pan sleepout

days 3-5 Moremi Game Reserve and Okavango predator sightings
Stay at Camp Kakanaka in the Moremi Game Reserve for repeated sightings rather than rushing between animals. Plan around the standard sunrise and late-afternoon drives, leaving the middle of the day for rest, lunch, and image backups.

Camp KakanakaCamp Kakanaka, Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana
Return to the known lion sighting over multiple drives and settle quietly for extended observation; the cubs remained in the same area for days after a buffalo kill.

days 6-7 Okavango flightseeing and Panhandle water experiences
Use the small aircraft transfer as part of the experience rather than treating it as dead time. The Panhandle phase shifts from land predators to reflective water, boat wildlife, relaxation, and a traditional mokoro outing.
-
Okavango DeltaOkavango Delta, Botswana
Take the light-aircraft transfer across the Delta; the aerial views provide a distinct photographic perspective and avoid a long, bumpy road transfer.

day 8 Tsodilo Hills rock art and sunrise flight
Treat Tsodilo Hills as a concentrated cultural and landscape-photography day. The sunrise helicopter flight and guided hike complement each other, but allow enough time on foot to study the ancient paintings.
-

Take the day tour to this UNESCO World Heritage site for ancient rock art, keeping the focus on the paintings rather than adding unrelated stops.

days 9-10 Chobe elephants, river cruises and lodge finish
Finish inside Chobe National Park, balancing land drives with river cruises. Water-based viewing is especially valuable for a photographer because it reverses the usual perspective and opens unobstructed compositions toward the riverbank.
