Plan notes

Useful context before you go

This source-faithful route follows the recommended six-night split: three nights around Ubud and three nights around Seminyak. Bali is much larger than it appears, and Kuta, Seminyak, Ubud, northern attractions, eastern temples, and Uluwatu can be roughly two hours apart depending on traffic. Use a private car with driver for full-day sightseeing; published examples are about $29 for six hours for up to three passengers or $37 for ten hours, excluding meals, entrance fees, and airport parking. For shorter trips, Grab or Gojek are practical, while public transport is described as complicated and unreliable for multi-attraction days. Download the apps, carry small Indonesian rupiah denominations, and use authorized money changers or ATMs inside banks. Do not drink Bali tap water or use it to brush your teeth; refill a smaller bottle from a large container of safe water. Bring a universal Type C/F adapter, modest clothing for temples, sturdy shoes for steep waterfall and Nusa Penida paths, and rain protection. At temples, dress modestly and respect active religious sites. Check current entry requirements, the All Indonesia arrival card, Bali's tourist levy, and any seasonal closures before departure. Allow extra time during the 7:00-9:00 a.m. and 4:00-7:00 p.m. traffic peaks.

Itinerary highlights

What is in this plan

Day 1: Arrival and Ubud cultural base

Use Ubud as the first base for cultural attractions, waterfalls, rice terraces, and day tours. A private airport transfer with a driver is especially useful when arriving before noon because it can stop at attractions en route; meals and entrance fees are extra.

  1. I Gusti Ngurah Rai International AirportI Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, Indonesia

Arrive through Bali's main gateway. Complete immigration and customs, keep the All Indonesia QR code and tourist levy QR code accessible, and allow time for traffic onward to Ubud.

  2. Ari Cottages UbudAri Cottages Ubud, Jalan Made Lebah, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

Use this quiet boutique property just outside central Ubud as the three-night base. Rooms overlook the pool, a supermarket is across the road, and restaurants, cafes, and shops are within a short walk.

  3. Sacred Monkey ForestSacred Monkey Forest, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

Walk shaded paths among ancient statues, mossy carvings, three historic temples, and more than 600 long-tailed macaques. Secure snacks and bags because the monkeys may inspect them.

  4. Tegalalang Rice TerraceTegalalang Rice Terrace, Tegalalang, Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia

Walk among stepped rice paddies and traditional agricultural scenery. Giant swings and photo platforms are available for an extra fee, but the terraces themselves can be enjoyed without paying for those add-ons.

  5. Tirta Empul TempleTirta Empul Temple, Manukaya, Tampaksiring, Bali, Indonesia

Visit the 926 CE temple complex to see holy springs, pools, fountains, and shrines. Visitors may participate in the purification ritual or observe respectfully from outside the bathing areas.

Day 2: Central Bali waterfalls, village life, and night market

Arrange a private car with driver or a Central Bali tour. Choose either the Penglipuran Village finale or the Ulu Petanu Falls finale; the source specifically presents them as alternatives.

  1. Blangsinga Glass BridgeBlangsinga Glass Bridge, Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia

Cross the suspended transparent walkway over the Blangsinga River. The bridge sways slightly, includes sound effects, and offers jungle views without requiring a full-day hike.

  2. Tegenungan WaterfallTegenungan Waterfall, Kemenuh, Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia

Descend the steps to the large pool beneath the accessible cascade. The return climb is required, so allow time and water for the ascent.

  3. Goa Raja WaterfallGoa Raja Waterfall, Bangli, Bali, Indonesia

Take the trail to the waterfall emerging from a cave. Expect a moderately long walk, mossy rocks, water spray, and a curtain-like cascade with sunlight filtering through the opening.

  4. Tirta Gangga Water PalaceTirta Gangga, Jalan Raya Abang Desa Adat, Ababi, Abang, Karangasem Regency, Bali

Explore ponds, fountains, guardian statues, and the sacred-water setting. The stepping-stone photo area can develop a long line; shade beside the ponds is useful during hot weather.

  5. Penglipuran VillagePenglipuran Village, Bangli, Bali, Indonesia

Choose this tour finale for preserved Balinese architecture, bamboo fences, stone pathways, and living community traditions maintained by local families.

  6. Gianyar Night MarketGianyar Night Market, Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia

Sample inexpensive local street food after sightseeing. Look for satay, fried snacks, and klepon desserts among the lively evening stalls.

  7. Taman Ayun TempleTaman Ayun Temple, Mengwi, Bali, Indonesia

Visit the UNESCO-listed royal temple complex with a moat, gardens, multi-tiered meru towers, and stone carvings. It was not reached during the source trip, so treat it as the day's optional cultural stop.

Day 3: North Bali lakes, gates, and rice terraces

Allow a full day for the five-stop northern route. Start early for the Handara photo stop and plan the long return drive around traffic.

  1. Handara GateHandara Gate, Pancasari, Bali, Indonesia

Arrive early for a shorter photo wait than at Lempuyang's Gate of Heaven. The gate is primarily a photo stop, with little else to do on site.

  2. BedugulBedugul, Tabanan, Bali, Indonesia

Explore the lakeside temple grounds and its iconic multi-tiered meru towers. The temple honors Dewi Danu, goddess of water, and sits on Lake Beratan.

  3. Banyumala Twin WaterfallsBanyumala Twin Waterfalls, Wanagiri, Bali, Indonesia

From the parking area, walk or ride a motorcycle to the trailhead, then descend stone steps to the cold natural pool. It is a quieter waterfall suited to a quick dip and forest scenery.

  4. Wanagiri Hidden HillWanagiri Hidden Hill, Wanagiri, Bali, Indonesia

Stop at the viewpoint over Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan for swings, bird nests, and photo platforms. Going early usually reduces waiting, although an afternoon visit may also be quiet.

  5. Jatiluwih Rice TerracesJatiluwih Rice Terraces, Penebel, Bali, Indonesia

Walk the trails through hundreds of hectares of UNESCO-listed paddies and observe the traditional Subak irrigation system and farmers working the landscape.

  6. Ubud Traditional Art Market AreaUbud Art Market, Jalan Raya Ubud, Bali

Use a full-day private north tour if you want all five stops without arranging separate transport. The source describes this as a quieter, greener alternative to the busy southern beach areas.

Day 4: East Bali temples and sunset options

The eastern route is a long day from southern or central bases. For Lempuyang, depart hours before dawn for sunrise conditions, or select the sunset version while accepting unpredictable queues and weather.

  1. Lempuyang TempleLempuyang Temple, Abang, Karangasem, Bali, Indonesia

See the famous Gate of Heaven and Mount Agung framing, but expect a shuttle from the parking lot, a queue number, a sarong requirement, and potentially hours of waiting. The photo itself is very quick and donations are expected.

  2. Goa Raja WaterfallGoa Raja Waterfall, Bangli, Bali, Indonesia

Follow the trail to the cave-like waterfall where water bursts over mossy rocks. The stop was used as an alternative when Tukad Cepung was closed.

  3. Tirta Gangga Water PalaceTirta Gangga, Jalan Raya Abang Desa Adat, Ababi, Abang, Karangasem Regency, Bali

Explore the historic ponds, fountains, guardian statues, and stepping-stone pool. Visit early or accept that the popular photo area can have a long line.

  4. Taman Ujung Water PalaceTaman Ujung Water Palace, Tumbu, Karangasem, Bali, Indonesia

Consider this additional eastern water palace if your chosen tour includes it. It combines open ponds, bridges, and traditional bale architecture, but it was not included in the source itinerary.

  5. Ubud Traditional Art Market AreaUbud Art Market, Jalan Raya Ubud, Bali

Book the eastern sunset tour only if you accept that queues and clouds may prevent the expected sunset or Mount Agung view. A sunrise version is offered as an alternative.

Day 5: Seminyak and the southern coast

Move to the Seminyak base for the final three nights. Southern Bali offers beaches, temples, cultural parks, and sunset sites, but traffic can be chaotic; cluster stops and avoid rush hours.

  1. Grandmas Plus Hotel SeminyakGrandmas Plus Hotel Seminyak, Jalan Camplung Tanduk, Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia

Use this compact, central hotel as the Seminyak base. It is a short walk from the beach, restaurants, and bars, with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a pool, spa, and restaurant.

  2. Seminyak BeachSeminyak Beach, Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia

Walk the sandy shoreline independently rather than booking a tour. This section is more upscale than Kuta and is lined with boutique hotels and beach clubs.

  3. Tanah Lot TempleTanah Lot, Beraban, Bali

See the 16th-century sea temple on its offshore rock formation. Sunset is popular and crowded, while waves crashing around the rocks create the signature coastal scene.

  4. Uluwatu TempleUluwatu Temple, Bali

Visit the cliffside temple about 70 meters above the Indian Ocean. Keep belongings secure around the free-roaming monkeys, then watch the sunset and Kecak fire dance performance.

  5. Melasti BeachMelasti Beach, Ungasan, Bali, Indonesia

Choose this cliffside beach for clear water, dramatic rock formations, and more space to walk and photograph than Padang Padang.

  6. Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural ParkGaruda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, Ungasan, Bali, Indonesia

Explore the large statue of Vishnu riding Garuda, exhibition halls, performance stages, and open spaces devoted to Hindu mythology and Balinese culture.

  7. Nusa Dua BeachNusa Dua Beach, Benoa, Bali, Indonesia

Spend a low-key beach afternoon on soft sand and calm water, then use the promenade for an easy Indian Ocean walk.

  8. Jalan Camplung TandukJalan Camplung Tanduk, Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia

Join a food-focused walk through Seminyak to try Balinese staples including babi guling, satay lilit, seafood, and tucked-away cafes.

Day 6: Nusa Penida cliffs and Denpasar flavors

Nusa Penida requires a separate fast boat or ferry and rough island roads, so treat it as a demanding full-day excursion or choose the Denpasar food-and-culture alternative. Do not attempt to combine every island stop with a mainland tour.

  1. Sanur HarbourSanur Harbour, Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia

Reach the separate island by fast boat or ferry. Roads can be rough, but the island's undeveloped scenery and viewpoints are the main reward.

  2. Kelingking BeachKelingking Beach, Nusa Penida, Bali, Indonesia

See the famous T-Rex-shaped cliff from the high viewpoint. The descent to the beach is steep and challenging, so sturdy shoes are essential.

  3. Angel's BillabongAngel's Billabong, Nusa Penida, Bali, Indonesia

Visit the natural infinity pool only at safe low tide. High tide can be dangerous; at the right conditions, the clear water is suitable for dipping feet and photographs.

  4. Broken BeachBroken Beach, Nusa Penida, Bali, Indonesia

Walk the cliff edge above the natural arch and circular cove. Do not swim because the current is strong; this is a short dramatic viewpoint stop.

  5. Crystal Bay Nusa PenidaCrystal Bay, Nusa Penida, Bali, Indonesia

Finish the western-cliff route at the calmer beach for golden sand, clearer water, and gentler swimming or surfing conditions. The access path remains steep but manageable.

  6. Diamond BeachDiamond Beach, Nusa Penida, Bali, Indonesia

If the east coast tour is selected, add the treehouse viewpoint, Diamond Beach, and Atuh Beach rather than limiting the day to the western highlights.

  7. Puri Agung Jero KutaPuri Agung Jero Kuta, Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia

For a mainland alternative, explore the palace gates, courtyards, and intricate carvings while learning about the local monarchy.

  8. Sindhu Beach Street MarketSindhu Beach Street Market, Sanur, Bali, Indonesia

Choose a Denpasar food tour or self-guided crawl for satay, babi guling, fried snacks, nasi campur, noodles, desserts, and other Indonesian dishes from street stalls and restaurants.
