Travel inspiration behind this plan
Plan notes
Useful context before you go
This route is designed for a patient traveler who wants to combine fjord scenery, historic places, local traditions, and selected active experiences without rushing. Allow time for ferry schedules, mountain roads, scenic rail travel, and limited availability at historic hotels. Pack waterproof layers, sturdy walking shoes, warm mid-layers, sun protection, and a small daypack for boat trips and hikes. Keep flexibility around weather for the Flåm Railway, fjord cruises, RIB safari, glacier areas, and mountain passes. The region is broad, so use Flåm or Aurland, the Kaupanger/Solvorn area, Skjolden, and Balestrand as sequential bases rather than attempting repeated day returns. A scenic rail journey, ferry connections, private transfers, and boutique or historic stays are all part of the region’s logistics.

What is in this plan
Days 1-2: Flåm and the Aurlandsfjord
Base yourself in Flåm for rail, fjord, and valley activities, or choose quieter Aurland for the same landscape with a more tranquil atmosphere.
