Plan notes

Useful context before you go

This is a relaxed, source-faithful Corfu route built around slow mornings, swimming, historic sites, coastal scenery, and quiet southern landscapes. Renting a car or scooter is the most flexible way to connect the island’s beaches and hilltop sites. Pack swimwear, reef-safe sun protection, sturdy shoes for Angelokastro, water for exposed walks, and a light layer for shaded old-town lanes. Corfu is especially atmospheric around Easter, when the traditional pot-smashing celebrations take place. For the most unhurried experience, base yourself in Corfu Town first, then move west or north before finishing in the south.

Itinerary highlights

What is in this plan

Days 1-2: Corfu Town History & Island Arrival

Arrive by direct flight or ferry, settle into Corfu Town, and explore at an intentionally unhurried pace. The old town works best on foot, with shaded pauses for coffee, market browsing, and people-watching.

  1. Corfu International AirportCorfu International Airport, Corfu, Greece

Use Corfu International Airport as the arrival point for direct summer flights from many European cities. Pick up a rental car or scooter here if you plan to explore beyond town.

  2. Corfu Old TownCorfu Old Town, Corfu, Greece

Start in the old town’s narrow alleyways, pastel buildings, and hidden squares. Its Venetian, French, and British influences make this the island’s strongest cultural introduction.

  3. Liston PromenadeListon Promenade, Corfu, Greece

Walk the Liston promenade for elegant arcades and a shaded coffee stop. It is a good place to slow down rather than treat the town as a checklist.

  4. Spianada SquareSpianada Square, Corfu, Greece

Pause in Spianada Square, the broad central square described as feeling more Italian than Greek. Choose a shaded bench for a low-key afternoon reset.

  5. Corfu Central MarketCorfu Central Market, Corfu, Greece

Browse the open-air markets for a close look at everyday island life. Keep this flexible and unhurried, pairing it with a coffee rather than a tightly scheduled attraction run.

  6. Old Fortress of CorfuOld Fortress of Corfu, Corfu, Greece

Visit the historic fortifications referenced in the old-town walk. Allow time for views and architecture rather than trying to rush through both fortress areas.

Days 3-4: Paleokastritsa’s Bays, Monastery & Sea Caves

Move west for Corfu’s dramatic cliffs, blue-green bays, olive groves, and the island’s most concentrated coastal scenery. Keep one full day for swimming and the monastery, with a separate half-day for the boat ride and viewpoints.

  1. PaleokastritsaPaleokastritsa, Corfu, Greece

Use Paleokastritsa as the main west-coast base for blue-green bays, clear water, and olive-grove scenery. The coastline is best enjoyed with time for several swims.

  2. Paleokastritsa BeachPaleokastritsa Beach, Corfu, Greece

Swim from one of Paleokastritsa’s organized beach areas, then retreat to the olive-grove shade. Bring water shoes or secure sandals for the pebbled shoreline.

  3. Paleokastritsa MonasteryPaleokastritsa Monastery, Corfu, Greece

Climb above the coast to this active 13th-century monastery. Dress respectfully, slow down among the flowers and olive trees, and stay for the Ionian Sea views.

  4. Paleokastritsa Sea CavesPaleokastritsa Sea Caves, Corfu, Greece

Take a local boat ride into the nearby sea caves. Check conditions locally before boarding and keep your camera protected from spray.

  5. Paleokastritsa ViewpointPaleokastritsa Viewpoint, Corfu, Greece

Use the west coast’s cliff viewpoints for broad views over the clear bays. The setting is exposed, so visit earlier or later in the day and carry water.

  6. Paleokastritsa HarbourPaleokastritsa Harbour, Corfu, Greece

Reserve a quiet evening for a long swim or dinner near the coast rather than adding another distant stop. This matches Corfu’s relaxed rhythm and keeps the west-coast base restorative.

Day 5: Angelokastro, Canal d’Amour & the Northern Coast

This is the trip’s densest exploration day: combine the hilltop fortress with the northern coast, then slow down at Canal d’Amour. Wear proper shoes for Angelokastro and leave time for swimming.

  1. AngelokastroAngelokastro, Corfu, Greece

Reach Angelokastro early enough to handle the climb comfortably. Bring water and good shoes; the reward is a peaceful Byzantine fortress with panoramic west-coast views.

  2. Canal d'AmourCanal d'Amour, Sidari, Corfu, Greece

Explore the layered rock formations at Canal d’Amour, then swim if conditions are calm. The local tradition says couples who swim here will stay together forever.

  3. SidariSidari, Corfu, Greece

Use Sidari as the practical northern base around Canal d’Amour. Keep the stop focused on the coast and allow time for a relaxed swim rather than adding unmentioned detours.

  4. North Corfu CoastNorth Corfu Coast, Corfu, Greece

Stop at the northern coast’s dramatic shoreline for clear water and cliff scenery. This is a viewpoint-and-swim segment, not a separate attraction circuit.

  5. Barbati BeachBarbati Beach, Corfu, Greece

If you want a calmer east-coast swim after the north, choose Barbati for its broad pebbled shoreline and mountain views across the sea.

  6. Dassia BeachDassia Beach, Corfu, Greece

Dassia offers another broad, calmer east-coast shoreline. Choose it instead of Barbati if you prefer an easier swimming stop and more open beach space.

Day 6: Corissian Lagoon, Issos Beach & South Corfu

Finish in flatter, warmer, less-developed South Corfu. The lagoon and dunes are for bird watching and long walks, while Issos provides the wide sandy beach and open space that contrast with the island’s pebbled northern coves.

  1. Corissian LagoonKorission Lagoon, Corfu, Greece

Spend the morning at Corissian Lagoon, watching birds and walking through the dunes. Carry water because the landscape is open and exposed.

  2. Korission Lagoon DunesKorission Lagoon Dunes, Corfu, Greece

Walk the sandy dune edge around the lagoon for a quieter South Corfu experience. Keep to established paths where possible and avoid disturbing birds.

  3. Issos BeachIssos Beach, Corfu, Greece

Use Issos Beach for wide sands and room to stretch out. It is the strongest final swim stop for travelers seeking space and a less-developed setting.

  4. South CorfuSouth Corfu, Corfu, Greece

Explore South Corfu’s agricultural landscape, historically associated with olive oil and wine production. Treat this as a landscape-focused drive and walk rather than a rushed sightseeing stop.

  5. Corfu Old TownCorfu Old Town, Corfu, Greece

If your dates coincide with Easter, look for Corfu’s traditional pot-smashing celebrations, when earthenware pots are thrown and broken as part of the festivities.

  6. Issos BeachIssos Beach, Corfu, Greece

End with a quiet dinner and a final long swim or golden afternoon rather than adding another transfer. Corfu’s best finish is deliberately slow and spacious.
