A Slow Luxury Escape in Chiang Dao’s Rice Fields

Make this the first major stop on the drive north. The temple is known for deep purple and blue decoration, a broad mountain backdrop, and a notably quiet, off-the-beaten-path atmosphere.

Stop at Buatong, better known as Sticky Waterfalls, while heading north. The limestone surface is unusually grippy, allowing visitors to climb sections of the waterfall using ropes where the rock becomes steeper. Arrive earlier than afternoon for a quieter experience and clearer access to the most photogenic spots.

Explore Chiang Dao Cave with a local guide. The cave system runs beneath the limestone mountain and includes large caverns as well as narrow passageways; skip or modify it if tight spaces are uncomfortable.

For a couples’ stay, use the honeymoon suite as the romantic upgrade: its large hot tub faces the mountains and the room also includes a private wooden sauna.

Arrange a traditional Thai massage at the resort. It can be set up among the rice paddies, or moved indoors when the heat and humidity are uncomfortable.

Time the honeymoon suite’s hot-tub session for sunset, open the windows toward the mountain, and pair it with champagne for the most romantic moment of the stay.

Finish with the resort’s sound bath, then use the private sauna the following morning if desired. Together with the massage and hot tub, these experiences are designed to slow the stay down rather than fill it with constant sightseeing.
