Plan notes

Useful context before you go

This is a fast-paced, source-faithful day trip from Hong Kong to Shenzhen and back. Confirm your Chinese visa and entry eligibility before departure, and carry the same passport used for your rail booking. For the China arrival card, allow substantial time to complete the online form, including passport details, visa information, arrival and departure routes, and the required signature; internet access is necessary, although free station Wi-Fi may be available. Arriving roughly 1.5 hours before the train is a practical buffer for Hong Kong and China immigration. Keep a small refillable bottle with you because drinking-water stations are available. Alipay, DiDi, and Amap are highlighted as useful China travel apps; download and configure them before leaving Hong Kong. Pack lightly, wear comfortable shoes for Lianhuashan Park’s steps, and keep enough time for the return ferry. The creator’s route uses high-speed rail from Hong Kong West Kowloon to Futian, then returns via Shekou Ferry Terminal.

What is in this plan

Day 1 — High-Speed Rail, Futian Skyline, Electronics District & Shekou Return

Keep the day tightly sequenced: clear both immigration checkpoints at West Kowloon, begin in Futian with the observation deck, move to the Huaqiangbei electronics district, climb Lianhuashan Park before fatigue sets in, and finish at Shekou for the ferry. The route is dense, so use DiDi for the park-to-port leg if time is running short.

  1. Hong Kong West Kowloon StationHong Kong West Kowloon Station, Austin Road, Hong Kong

Use this as the cross-border departure point. Book the Hong Kong–Futian high-speed train in advance with passport details, arrive early for both Hong Kong and Chinese immigration, and follow the visitor or foreigner lanes rather than the citizen lanes. Keep the arrival-card QR code available on your phone.

Arrive at Futian Railway Station after the roughly 14-minute underground high-speed journey. Exit toward the city and use the station’s signs or Amap to orient yourself; the station has automatic ticketing and extensive metro connections.

Make the Ping An International Finance Center the first major stop. The building rises 599 meters and the visit includes a very fast elevator ride to the observation level, with city views, interactive displays, photographs, a curved screen, and a glass-floor area.

  4. Ping An International Finance CenterPing An International Finance Center, 益田路, Futian District, Shenzhen, China

Visit the Free Sky observation deck inside Ping An Finance Center. The source describes the 116th-floor deck, a 360-degree panorama, a high glass-floor cantilever, VR-style activities, interactive walls, a miniature display, and a souvenir shop. The recorded admission was 200 RMB per person; confirm the current price before going.

Use the PFC Mall exit after the observation deck. Its lower-level food court provides a convenient lunch stop; the recorded meal was beef curry with white rice, potato, gravy, and egg, costing 49 RMB. Choose from the photo menu if language is a barrier, and confirm ingredients when ordering.

  6. Huaqiangbei Electronics MarketHuaqiangbei Electronics Market, Huaqiang North Road, Futian District, Shenzhen, China

Explore Huaqiangbei as a whole electronics district rather than expecting one single market building. The area contains numerous interconnected electronics malls and is useful for phones, drones, smart watches, LED products, cameras, and second-hand electronics. Compare quality carefully, especially for unfamiliar or used products.

  10. Sea World ShenzhenSea World, Taizi Road, Shekou, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, China

Sea World was intended as an additional stop near the ferry area but was not reached because the day ran late and fatigue set in. Treat it as an optional buffer only, never at the expense of the 7:15 ferry. Continue directly to Shekou Ferry Terminal if time is tight; the recorded return route used DiDi after the park.

  11. Shekou Ferry TerminalShekou Ferry Terminal, Shekou, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, China

Finish at Shekou Ferry Terminal for the return to Hong Kong. Allow time to find the passenger-port check-in area, follow the departure signs, and complete any tax-refund documentation required for eligible purchases before boarding. The ferry was scheduled for 7:15 in the source, so arrive with a substantial buffer.
