Plan notes

Useful context before you go

This plan reconstructs the creator's single Roatán shore day rather than expanding it into an invented week-long itinerary. The route uses a rental car, begins at the cruise-port area, then follows the west coast to West Bay Beach, West End Village, Calus Grocery, and Half Moon Bay Beach. Bring swimwear, reef-safe sun protection, cash for small food and drink purchases, and snorkeling goggles if you have them; mask-and-fin rental was available for $15. The sampled rental car cost $58 for the day. Spanish and English are both commonly spoken in the visited west-coast area. A travel eSIM and travel insurance were included among the supplied travel resources.

Itinerary highlights

What is in this plan

day 1 West Coast Beaches, West End Village & Local Food

Use the rental-car route shown in the source: the west-coast drive from the port took about 25 minutes to reach West Bay and another 12 minutes to reach West End Village. The beaches can become busier as cruise groups arrive, so begin at West Bay and finish at the quieter Half Moon Bay Beach. The sampled day included roughly two hours at the first beach and about 50 minutes at the final quiet beach.

  1. Roatán Cruise PortRoatán Cruise Port, Roatán, Honduras

Collect the automatic rental car here before driving west. The sampled day used a Chevrolet rental costing $58 for the day; confirm the vehicle condition and fuel policy before leaving.

  2. Roatán Cruise PortRoatán Cruise Port, Roatán, Honduras

Take in the reef views from the port's upper decks before setting out. The port area also has a colorful beach-club-style pool called Tiki Tiki Pool, making this a quick orientation stop rather than the main beach experience.

  3. West Bay BeachWest Bay Beach, Roatán, Honduras

Spend the first substantial beach block here. The water was described as exceptionally calm and suitable for swimming and children, with palm trees close to the shoreline. This is a resort-lined beach rather than a remote one, but it was not especially crowded during the visit.

  4. West Bay BeachWest Bay Beach, Roatán, Honduras

Rent mask and fins locally and swim out to the nearby reef rather than booking a full tour. The quoted rental price was $15, and the reef was visible from shore. Guided snorkeling tours were also available with equipment and a guide.

  5. West Bay Beach PierWest Bay Beach Pier, Roatán, Honduras

Walk to the beach corner and pier for the views, fishing rods, and a different perspective over the reef and shoreline. Fishing tours appeared to operate from this area. Avoid the quoted $75 beach-bed charge by using the shaded towel space instead; another nearby option was said to cost $15.

  6. West End VillageWest End Village, Roatán, Honduras

Explore the compact waterfront village on foot. Its low-key beaches, deck restaurants and bars on stilts, reggae atmosphere, and water-taxi access give it a distinctly laid-back Caribbean feel. The source specifically considered it a better base for staying on the island than a brief cruise stop.

  7. Calus GroceryCalus Grocery, West End Village, Roatán, Honduras

Stop for inexpensive local food. The menu included chicken baliadas for $2, a shared mixed dish for two at $21.99, fish ceviche for $12, shrimp dishes around $17, fish fillet for $16, and Salva Vida beer for $2. 8. Half Moon Bay BeachHalf Moon Bay Beach, West End Village, Roatán, Honduras

End the route at this quieter, more laid-back beach. The water was described as very calm, and the source mentioned massages nearby plus a possible swim out to a boat with a swing. It was presented as a more peaceful alternative to the busier first beach and a promising area to stay on a return visit.
