Plan notes

Useful context before you go

This source-faithful plan follows the creator's compact one-night, two-day Ajodhya circuit during the monsoon. The route is designed around an overnight Howrah–Barabhum train, pre-booked accommodation, meals, and local sightseeing transport. Expect wet, slippery paths and challenging stair-and-rock sections at Bamnifalls and Turga Waterfalls; carry rain protection, footwear with strong grip, a dry bag, and drinking water. The reported Palash Shova Resort package included accommodation, meals, sightseeing, pickup, and drop: approximately ₹4,500 per person for four people, ₹4,200 for six, or ₹4,000 for eight, with customized one-night/two-day and two-night/three-day options also available. The creator specifically describes pickup at Barabhum station and possible drop-off in Purulia.

What is in this plan

Day 1 — Barabhum, Pakhi Pahar, Temples, Dams and Charida

Take the overnight Howrah–Chakradharpur Express and get off at Barabhum rather than Purulia station to begin the Ajodhya circuit efficiently. The creator's compact package used a station pickup, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and local sightseeing vehicle. This is a dense day, so keep the morning flexible after the overnight train and take care on wet roads and paths.

  1. Barabhum Railway StationBarabhum Railway Station, Barabhum, West Bengal, India

Use Barabhum as the arrival point for the Ajodhya Hills circuit. The creator arrived at approximately 7:40 a.m. and was collected directly outside the station by the pre-booked package vehicle.

  2. Pakhi PaharPakhi Pahar, Ajodhya Hills, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Stop here before checking in. Local women from a community group offer guiding assistance for ₹100 per vehicle, while the creator also notes that visitors can walk around independently. The approach includes a visibly broken road, carved bird figures, a large stone landmark, and an approximately one-hour trek option with local guide support.

  3. Palash Shova ResortPalash Shova Resort, Baghmundi, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Use this as the overnight base in Baghmundi. The creator stayed in a newly constructed Deluxe Cottage 1 and describes clean rooms, a double bed suitable for two adults plus a child, mini-fridge, electric kettle, bottled water, Western-style bathroom, geyser, and included breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Cottage 5 was described as suitable for about four guests.

  4. Laharia Shiv MandirLaharia Shiv Mandir, Baghmundi, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Visit during the monsoon Monday pilgrimage period described by the creator. The temple can become very crowded, with separate lines for men and women. The route used the rear side to avoid the busiest main-road approach, followed by a short walk to the shrine.

  5. Laharia DamLaharia Dam, Baghmundi, Purulia, West Bengal, India

The dam lies directly opposite Laharia Shiv Mandir. During the described pilgrimage, visitors collected water here for ritual offerings and some bathed at the reservoir. Respect privacy around bathing areas and avoid photographing people without permission.

  6. Gakcha WaterfallsGakcha Waterfalls, Ajodhya Hills, Purulia, West Bengal, India

This is an offbeat monsoon waterfall reached by walking from the vehicle drop-off. The creator could not reach the front of the falls because water had accumulated during the rains; in winter, the route to the face of the waterfall was described as more accessible.

  7. Turga DamTurga Dam, Ajodhya Hills, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Pause at this reservoir for the monsoon landscape and then look across toward the elevated Shri Ram Mandir. The creator noted that the dam's water level was lower than expected during the visit.

  8. Shri Ram Mandir, Turga DamShri Ram Mandir, Turga Dam, Ajodhya Hills, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Climb the staircase to the temple above Turga Dam. The creator highlights the panoramic 360-degree view from this elevated position, making it the best viewpoint stop within the dam visit.

  9. Khayrಾಬেরা DamKhayrabera Dam, Baghmundi, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Park at the designated area because vehicles are not allowed farther into the dam approach. The creator recommends this as a sunset location, although clouds blocked the sunset during the visit. The reservoir sits within the Chemtaburu hill range.

  10. Charida Mask VillageCharida Mask Village, Baghmundi, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Explore the mask-making village and its rows of workshops and shops. The creator saw demon masks, Buddha masks, Durga and Kali masks, and a shop identified as Subrata Mukhosh. Large Chhau masks were described as starting around ₹300–₹400, while a Buddha mask shown in the shop cost ₹410. More shops are open on Saturday and Sunday than on Monday.

Day 2 — Ajodhya Dam Circuit and Waterfalls

After breakfast, complete the upper and lower dam loop, Marble Lake, and the two main waterfall stops before returning to the resort for lunch and checkout. Bamnifalls requires a substantial descent by stairs that becomes a rocky path, while Turga Waterfalls has no stairs to the lower viewpoint. Leave extra time for the return climb and keep footwear dry where possible.

  1. Laharia Dam ViewpointLaharia Dam Viewpoint, Ajodhya Hills, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Stop at this viewpoint before reaching Lower Dam. It overlooks Laharia Dam and Laharia Shiv Mandir, and the creator particularly emphasizes the lush monsoon greenery across the Ajodhya landscape.

  2. Lower Dam, Ajodhya HillsLower Dam, Ajodhya Hills, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Take in the lower reservoir and the surrounding hills before continuing upward toward Upper Dam. The creator describes this as the lower dam on the Ajodhya Hill side and notes the visible connection back toward Laharia Dam.

  3. Upper Dam, Ajodhya HillsUpper Dam, Ajodhya Hills, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Continue to the upper reservoir for the contrast of blue water and fully green hills. This is one of the creator's strongest landscape stops in the Ajodhya circuit.

  4. Marble LakeMarble Lake, Ajodhya Hills, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Walk from the parked vehicle along the covered approach to the artificial lake. Small food and shopping stalls, including wooden goods, appear along the way. The creator visited around noon and found the heat intense despite the monsoon season.

  5. BamnifallsBamnifalls, Ajodhya Hills, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Allow time for the long descent from the entrance gate. The route begins with many stairs, narrows as it descends, and eventually becomes a rocky path. A midway viewpoint appears before the main waterfall; avoid the shortcut in wet conditions and plan for a strenuous climb back up.

  6. Turga WaterfallsTurga Waterfalls, Ajodhya Hills, Purulia, West Bengal, India

This waterfall is approximately a ten-minute drive from Bamnifalls. A roadside viewpoint lets you see it without descending, while the lower viewpoint requires a path over bare rock with no staircase. Attempt the lower route only if conditions are dry and footing is secure.

  7. Palash Shova ResortPalash Shova Resort, Baghmundi, Purulia, West Bengal, India

Return here for the included lunch, rest, and checkout. The package meals shown included rice, salad, fried potato, dal, mixed vegetables, fish, egg omelette, curd, chutney, and papad; dinner options included chicken or paneer with roti. The resort also served changing evening snacks such as chow mein, pakora, or beguni with muri chanachur.
