Plan notes
Useful context before you go
This source-faithful route is designed around Kenya's core five-day safari circuit: Nairobi, Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha. For Indian travelers, apply for Kenya's $35 ETA about two weeks before departure and carry flight and hotel bookings. Get the yellow fever vaccination at least 10 days before travel and carry the yellow booklet for immigration. July to October offers clearer grassland visibility and possible Mara River migration sightings but is peak season; January to April offers milder conditions, fewer crowds and generally lower costs. Carry USD to exchange or use a zero-forex-markup card at ATMs, and consider a Safaricom SIM from the airport for coverage. Pack light gray, white or cream clothing rather than bright red or yellow, plus mosquito repellent, sunscreen and a cap. Bring a good camera or rent one for the five-day safari, and consider carrying personal binoculars even when operators provide them. Safari drives may be called game drives locally. The itinerary intentionally ends after the Naivasha-to-Nairobi return; Mombasa is best treated as an optional two- or three-day extension rather than compressed into this five-day route.
