Plan notes
Useful context before you go
Albania is one of Europe's most rewarding off-the-beaten-path destinations. Currency is the Albanian Lek (ALL), and cash is widely preferred in smaller villages along the Riviera, so carry sufficient notes. Car rental is highly recommended to reach secluded bays, mountain passes, and hillside villages. Keep offline maps downloaded as cell coverage can drop in narrow canyons and remote mountain stretches. When visiting religious sanctuaries like monasteries, keep shoulders and knees covered.
