Plan notes
Useful context before you go
This source-faithful route follows the Republic of Cyprus from Larnaca through the southeastern beaches, divided Nicosia, Limassol, Paphos, and the Troodos Mountains. Expect a mix of waterfront promenades, ancient ruins, resort nightlife, living history, and cooler pine-covered mountain landscapes. Use Larnaca as the practical arrival point, keep beach and city clothing flexible, and bring a light layer for Troodos, where temperatures drop noticeably and winter snow is possible. The northern part of the island is intentionally excluded because the source specifically stays within the Republic of Cyprus and notes practical considerations around crossing the political divide.

Itinerary highlights
What is in this plan
Day 1: Larnaca Arrival and Local Waterfront
Begin in Larnaca, the easiest arrival point because the international airport is next to the city. Keep this first day relaxed and use the waterfront and old town to settle into the island.
-
Larnaca WaterfrontLarnaca Waterfront, Larnaca, Cyprus
Start along the palm-lined waterfront, where cafes and restaurants face the sea. It is a relaxed introduction to Cyprus rather than a heavily resort-focused arrival.
-
Finikoudes BeachFinikoudes Beach, Larnaca, Cyprus
Use the main beach for an easy swim: the sand is soft and the water is shallow, making this one of the most accessible beach stops on the route.
-
Larnaca Old TownLarnaca Old Town, Larnaca, Cyprus
Walk behind the waterfront into Larnaca's quieter old town, where narrow streets and older buildings show the everyday side of the city.
-
Larnaca Salt LakeLarnaca Salt Lake, Larnaca, Cyprus
Visit the large salt lake just outside the center. It becomes an important stopping point for migrating birds in winter.
-
Larnaca Waterfront RestaurantsLarnaca Waterfront Restaurants, Larnaca, Cyprus
Return to the waterfront for an unhurried meal with sea views, preserving the city's slower, lived-in atmosphere rather than treating it only as an airport stop.
-
Larnaca City CenterLarnaca City Center, Larnaca, Cyprus
Keep this as a low-pressure evening in the city; Larnaca's appeal is its relaxed urban rhythm and lack of intense resort energy.
Days 2-3: Ayia Napa and Protaras Beach Coast
Move east for Cyprus's classic beach-holiday coastline. Ayia Napa is the livelier, nightlife-oriented base and can become extremely busy in July and August; Protaras provides a more family-friendly contrast with sandy beaches and shallow water.
-
Ayia Napa BeachfrontAyia Napa Beachfront, Ayia Napa, Cyprus
Use Ayia Napa's beach zone for the classic southeastern Cyprus experience, with softer sand and clearer, calmer water than much of the western coast.
-
Ayia Napa Resort CenterAyia Napa Resort Center, Ayia Napa, Cyprus
Reserve an evening for Ayia Napa nightlife. Choose this area if you want a social, party-oriented resort atmosphere rather than quiet coastal evenings.
-
Protaras BeachfrontProtaras Beachfront, Protaras, Cyprus
Visit Protaras for mostly sandy beaches and calm, shallow water. It is the more family-friendly beach base in this eastern section.
-
Protaras Sea CavesProtaras Sea Caves, Protaras, Cyprus
Follow the coast beyond the developed resort zone to the rocky cliffs and sea caves. The water is clear, but this shoreline is rock rather than sand.
-
Sculpture Park Ayia NapaSculpture Park Ayia Napa, Ayia Napa, Cyprus
Stop at the large sculpture park overlooking the coast for a cultural counterpoint to the beaches and resort development.
-
Parko Paliatso Luna ParkParko Paliatso Luna Park, Ayia Napa, Cyprus
After dark, visit the amusement-park area if you want to see the resort transform: lights, crowds, and a distinctly energetic nighttime character.
Day 4: Nicosia and the Divided Capital
Leave the coast for Nicosia, where the island's political division is visible in the old center. This is a history-and-everyday-life day rather than a beach day; allow time to absorb the contrast between polished resorts and a living, divided capital.
-
Nicosia Old CityNicosia Old City, Nicosia, Cyprus
Explore Nicosia's old center, where signs of the division between the Greek Cypriot south and Turkish Cypriot north remain visible.
-
Nicosia Historic CenterHistoric Center of Nicosia, Nicosia, Cyprus
Pay attention to the visible traces of the island's post-1974 division rather than treating the old center as a conventional historic quarter.
-
Büyük HanBüyük Han, Nicosia, Cyprus
Visit the Great Inn, a historic caravanserai organized around a central courtyard once used by travelers and merchants.
-
Büyük Han Market StreetsBüyük Han Market Streets, Nicosia, Cyprus
Walk through the surrounding market streets, where small shops, stalls, and vendors create a more chaotic and local atmosphere than the beach resorts.
-
Nicosia Old CenterNicosia Old Center, Nicosia, Cyprus
Use the old city as a place to observe history embedded in ordinary life: the source specifically frames Nicosia as a city where history remains part of the everyday environment.
-
Nicosia Old City at NightNicosia Old City, Nicosia, Cyprus
Stay in the old city after sunset to see its different nighttime character, while keeping the crossing issue in mind and remaining within the Republic of Cyprus as this route does.
Days 5-6: Limassol Waterfront, Old Town and Nightlife
Head south to Limassol, the island's second-largest city and one of its most modern areas. Split time between the transformed waterfront, modern marina, medieval old town, municipal garden, and busy evening scene.
-
Limassol Waterfront PromenadeLimassol Waterfront Promenade, Limassol, Cyprus
Walk the long waterfront promenade, which combines beaches, restaurants, hotels, and the large marina in one busy urban stretch.
-
Limassol MarinaLimassol Marina, Limassol, Cyprus
Visit Limassol Marina to experience the polished, modern side of the city and its concentration of waterfront development.
-
Limassol Old TownLimassol Old Town, Limassol, Cyprus
Move inland into the old town, where narrow streets and traditional buildings create a sharp contrast with the modern waterfront.
-
Limassol CastleLimassol Castle, Limassol, Cyprus
Visit the medieval castle at the center of the old town for the clearest single expression of Limassol's older character.
-
Limassol Municipal GardenLimassol Municipal Garden, Limassol, Cyprus
Take a quieter break in Limassol Municipal Garden, with greenery and paths just outside the old town's busier streets.
-
Limassol Seafront at NightLimassol Seafront, Limassol, Cyprus
Finish with a seafront evening: after sunset the waterfront lights up and restaurants and bars stay busy late.
Day 7: Paphos, Aphrodite and Roman Ruins
Continue west to slower-paced Paphos. Concentrate the day around the harbor archaeological sites, Roman mosaics, Aphrodite's ancient connection, the modern waterfront, and the unusual Edro III wreck.
-
Paphos Archaeological ParkPaphos Archaeological Park, Paphos, Cyprus
Explore the archaeological sites around Paphos harbor, among the strongest places on this route to encounter Cyprus's ancient past.
-
Paphos Roman VillasRoman Villas, Paphos Archaeological Park, Paphos, Cyprus
Spend time with the Roman villas and their mosaics, especially the scenes drawn from Greek mythology.
-
Sanctuary of AphroditeSanctuary of Aphrodite, Kouklia, Cyprus
Use Paphos to follow the Aphrodite story beyond the Roman period; the city's older settlement and sanctuary were connected to centuries of worship.
-
Paphos HarbourPaphos Harbour, Paphos, Cyprus
Pause at the modern harbor immediately beside the ancient city, where ruins, cafes, hotels, and a busy waterfront sit within minutes of one another.
-
Paphos Town CenterPaphos Town Center, Paphos, Cyprus
Use the town for a slower holiday atmosphere. The pace is calmer than the larger eastern resorts and suits an unhurried afternoon after the archaeological sites.
-
Edro III ShipwreckEdro III Shipwreck, Peyia, Cyprus
End at the wreck of the Edro III, left on the rocks since 2011. The rugged coast here provides a final contrast to Paphos's harbor and ancient sites.
Day 8: Troodos Mountains and the Green Interior
Finish inland in the Troodos Mountains, where Cyprus changes from resort coast to pine forest, winding mountain roads, villages, cooler elevations, and possible winter snow. Even a few hours in the mountains is enough to experience the contrast.
-
Troodos MountainsTroodos Mountains, Cyprus
Drive into the Troodos Mountains for the island's strongest landscape contrast: green slopes and pine forests replacing dry coastal scenery.
-
Troodos Mountain RoadsTroodos Mountain Roads, Cyprus
Take the winding mountain roads slowly; the drive itself is part of the experience and reveals a landscape unlike the coast.
-
Troodos Mountain VillagesTroodos Mountain Villages, Cyprus
Stop in one of the small mountain villages to experience the replacement of coastal hotels and apartment blocks with village-scale settlement.
-
Troodos Higher ElevationsTroodos Higher Elevations, Cyprus
Bring a warmer layer for higher elevations. The mountains are noticeably cooler than the coast, even when the beaches remain mild.
-
Troodos Winter LandscapeTroodos Winter Landscape, Cyprus
If traveling in winter, look for snow in parts of the mountains while the beaches remain relatively mild; this seasonal contrast is one of the island's defining surprises.
-
Troodos Scenic ViewpointsTroodos Scenic Viewpoints, Cyprus
Even a few hours here is enough to complete the island's central contrast: Roman ruins and busy beaches give way to a green mountain landscape within a relatively small area.
