Plan notes
Useful context before you go
This plan suits a family-oriented slow traveler who wants uncrowded beaches, gentle island activities, local food, cultural encounters, and a few carefully chosen adventures. Pack reef-safe sunscreen, long-sleeved sun protection, water shoes, quick-dry clothing, insect repellent, motion-sickness medication, oral rehydration salts, a dry bag, and a properly fitted child carrier. For snorkeling, use a flotation vest for children and avoid strong currents at Crystal Bay, Diamond Beach, Atuh Beach, and Angel’s Billabong. Confirm sea conditions before every ferry and boat journey; the Gili Air and Nusa Penida crossings can be rough. Download offline maps, arrange cash in small denominations, and use Grab or a reputable private driver on Bali and Lombok. Scooter travel is not recommended with a baby or inexperienced riders, especially on Kintamani’s rocky roads. Reapply sunscreen frequently, particularly during surfing or beach days. Dress modestly when visiting Sasak villages and inland Muslim communities. The itinerary favors five nights on Gili Asahan, five nights around Kuta Lombok, and a relaxed progression through Java and Bali rather than rushing between islands.

Itinerary highlights
What is in this plan
Days 1-2 Java Arrival, Sleeper Bus & Yogyakarta Street Food
Use the overnight bus as the major transition into Yogyakarta. Keep the following morning light, then explore Malioboro after sunset when the street food atmosphere is most lively.
-
Juragan 99 Trans Bus StationJuragan 99 Trans Bus Station, Malang, Indonesia
Board the overnight sleeper service toward Yogyakarta. The journey was described as roughly eight hours, with cold air-conditioning, an included meal, snacks, and a fare of about €23. Bring a sweater and child comfort items.

Malioboro StreetJalan Malioboro, Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Walk the city’s main pedestrian artery for batik, handicrafts, clothing, accessories, and constant street activity. Visit earlier with a child, then return at night for the liveliest food stalls.

Malioboro Street Food StallsMalioboro Street Food Stalls, Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Make this a tasting crawl rather than one large meal: sample chicken intestine, liver, boiled eggs, crispy beef skin, satay, and bakpia. Carry hand sanitizer and choose busy stalls with fast turnover.

Warung MakanWarung Makan, Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Use a quiet café or hotel morning to recover from the bus and organize the next flight or road transfer. Keep hydration and nap time ahead of sightseeing.

Yogyakarta International AirportYogyakarta International Airport, Kulon Progo, Indonesia
Arrange the onward flight or rail connection only after confirming baggage and stroller policies. A private transfer is more comfortable than a tight same-day sequence with a baby.
Watch the source moment on YouTube ↗
Days 3-5 Kintamani Volcano & Sunrise
Base near Kintamani for two nights. The sunrise hike is an early, physically demanding outing; schedule a pool or quiet afternoon afterward and avoid adding a motorbike day with a child.
-
Cloud Hill GlampingCloud Hill Glamping, Kintamani, Bali, Indonesia
Stay at a scenic glamping base with views toward Mount Batur and Lake Batur. The featured stay cost about €20 per night; reserve a private unit and check bathroom and crib arrangements.

Mount Batur TrailheadMount Batur Trailhead, Kintamani, Bali, Indonesia
Meet the guide around 4 a.m. for the sunrise ascent. Budget roughly 300,000 rupiah per person, carry a headlamp, water, warm layer, and snacks, and confirm whether the route is suitable for your group.
Watch the source moment on YouTube ↗ -
Mount Batur SummitMount Batur Summit, Kintamani, Bali, Indonesia
Reach the summit after roughly 80 minutes for orange and pink sunrise views across Bali. The final section can be steep and rocky; a child carrier with a chest strap is safer than a stroller.
Watch the source moment on YouTube ↗ -
Mount Batur CraterMount Batur Crater, Kintamani, Bali, Indonesia
View the steaming crater vents from a safe guided distance. Eggs are traditionally cooked in the hot volcanic holes, but do not approach unstable edges or let children near the monkeys.
Watch the source moment on YouTube ↗ -
Mount Batur Crater RimMount Batur Crater Rim, Kintamani, Bali, Indonesia
The crater-rim path is narrow with steep drops and is not appropriate for a stroller. Skip this section if carrying a baby feels unstable or visibility is poor.

Mount Batur Lava FieldsMount Batur Lava Fields, Kintamani, Bali, Indonesia
See the black jagged lava formations created by the 1963 eruption from a licensed driver rather than attempting a rough scooter route. The road conditions can be hazardous, especially after rain.

Days 6-7 Munduk Waterfalls & Mountain Air
Munduk is a compact jungle-and-waterfall phase. Rain can make trails slippery and pools murky, so keep a flexible day and choose observation over jumping when conditions are poor.
-
MundukMunduk, Bali, Indonesia
Travel from the Mount Batur area to Munduk by private car; the journey was about three hours and approximately 400,000 rupiah. Stop for food and breaks rather than rushing the mountain roads.

Days 8-10 Ubud Rafting, Jungle & Spa

Days 23-25 Nusa Penida: Selective Highlights & Safety

-
