What is in this plan

Day 1: Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar

**Temple visits:** Omkareshwar Temple stands on the Narmada and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The island is said to resemble the sacred Om symbol from above. A priest advised that pilgrims may visit whichever Jyotirlinga is nearer or easier first. Local belief holds that prayers at both Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar complete the pilgrimage to the pair. **River access:** Boats cross the Narmada to the island, while the creator reached Omkareshwar Temple by bridge. Gaumukh Ghat, where water flo…

One of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines, Omkareshwar Temple stands beside the Narmada. The island is said to resemble the sacred Om symbol when seen from above. The creator reached the temple by bridge; boats also cross to the island. A priest’s guidance was that pilgrims can visit whichever Jyotirlinga is nearer or easier first.

  2. Mamleshwar Mahadev TempleMamleshwar Temple, Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh, India

Visit Mamleshwar as the companion shrine to Omkareshwar. The outside queue was disorganized during the visit, although the system inside worked better. Local belief holds that prayers at both temples complete the pilgrimage.

Day 2: Omkareshwar Parikrama

**Route and distance:** The circuit begins at the old Narmada bridge. The creator gives route estimates of about 5.5 km and about 7 km at different points, and says the older route adds roughly half a kilometre. Treat these as route-dependent estimates and leave time for the stops along the way. **Stops along the circuit:** The walk passes Gayatri Shaktipeeth, visible beside the route, and Khedapati Hanuman Temple, which the creator reached about 100 metres into the walk. Kedareshwar Temple fol…

  1. Gori Somnath TempleGauri Somnath Temple, Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh, India

At roughly the halfway point of the circuit, the creator visited this Parmar-era temple. Its three levels, conical form, large Shiva lingam, Parvati idol and carved details are highlights. The main structure was described as dating to the 10th–11th centuries.

  2. Siddhnath TempleSiddhnath Temple, Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh, India

The creator highlighted the temple’s pillars and raised platform, attributing it to the Parmar kings. He also described damage from a Mughal attack and shared a local story about damage to elephant carvings after people believed treasure was hidden in the elephants’ mouths.

  3. Chand Suraj DwarChand Suraj Gateway, Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh, India

The creator explored the ruined gateway, pointing out its toran, scattered stone blocks and two visible idols. The history of the old structure was not clear, so take time to look at the remaining stonework.
