Day 1 — Rocinha, Centro Markets & Lapa
Do the south-zone hill stop first, then metro back to Centro for the market crawl and the Cathedral–Theatro–Lapa–Selarón chain. The shopping blocks are the best place to beat the tourist markups, but by late Saturday afternoon the streets start to thin out and feel less comfortable, so do not save the market section for the end of the day.
