Plan notes

Useful context before you go

Plan this as a focused aviation-and-beach day. Arrive early, check expected arrivals and departures in the Flightradar24 app, and bring sunscreen because natural shade is limited. For landing views, stay behind the runway in the beach area; when aircraft are taking off, move to the side and obey all jet-blast warning signs. The water can become dangerously rough when jets arrive, there are no lifeguards, and swimming is at your own risk. Bring a towel if you want to avoid the $20–$40 chair and umbrella rentals. Keep a quick rain shower in mind, as heavy island rain may pass within minutes.

What is in this plan

Day 1 — Maho Beach Arrivals, Jet Blast and Sunset Views

Base yourself near Maho Beach and make the day revolve around the flight schedule. The busiest period is generally around midday, when larger international arrivals can draw crowds, so arriving early gives you more space. Leave time for the beach, a bar or restaurant, and a final sunset plane-spotting session.

  1. The Morgan Resort & SpaThe Morgan Resort & Spa, Maho Beach, Sint Maarten

Use the resort as the convenient starting point for the beach visit. The shoreline is only about a two-minute walk away, making it practical to arrive early before the larger crowds.

  2. Maho BeachMaho Beach, Sint Maarten

Start the main plane-spotting session here. The beach sits directly beside the airport approach, with aircraft passing extremely low over the shoreline. Bring your own towel if you want to avoid renting a chair or umbrella.

  3. Maho Beach Arrival Viewing AreaMaho Beach, Sint Maarten

Use the beach area behind the runway for arriving aircraft, where the planes pass directly overhead. Check Flightradar24 beforehand and stay especially alert for larger international arrivals. The area can be most crowded during the afternoon and around midday arrival periods.

  4. Maho Beach Jet Blast Viewing AreaMaho Beach, Sint Maarten

Watch departures from the side of the beach rather than directly behind the runway. Jet blast from departing aircraft can be far stronger than it appears, so keep away from the warning-sign area and never treat the experience as a photo opportunity worth risking your footing or belongings.

  5. Princess Juliana International AirportPrincess Juliana International Airport, Sint Maarten

The airport is the reason aircraft approach so low over Maho Beach. Use the live flight information to anticipate arrivals and departures, including smaller aircraft, helicopters, and larger international services.

  6. Sunset Bar & GrillSunset Bar & Grill, Maho Beach, Sint Maarten

If you want to watch without sitting directly on the sand, use this beachfront bar for front-row views of the beach and incoming aircraft. The menu includes burgers, sandwiches, salads, pizza, cocktails, and fresh seafood; the on-site shop sells aviation-themed souvenirs and Maho Beach memorabilia. Small pools are also available.

  7. Maho Beach Bars Parking AreaMaho Beach Bars Parking Area, Maho Beach, Sint Maarten

Use the taxi waiting area near the entrance to the beach bars if you need onward transportation. Several taxis are usually present; if none are available, the nearby Mary's Resort may be able to help arrange one.

  8. Maho Beach SandbarMaho Beach Sandbar, Maho Beach, Sint Maarten

If you want an alternative to the main beach-bar setting, this nearby sandbar offers another place for food, drinks, and a slightly different atmosphere while remaining close to the plane-spotting area.
