Plan notes
Useful context before you go
This is a fast-moving island-hopping backpacker plan built around a rental car, a budget-conscious studio base, self-catering, beaches, viewpoints, and snorkeling. A car is strongly recommended because public transportation is limited and the mountainous terrain makes walking impractical. Pack snorkel gear, swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, sturdy shoes for the final walk to Pic Paradis, and supplies for simple cooking and coffee in a studio kitchen. Four days is enough to see the island's major highlights. Keep valuables secure at beaches and check local access conditions before driving into mountainous areas.
Itinerary highlights
What is in this plan
Day 1 Philipsburg, Oyster Bay & Island Orientation
Collect a rental car and use Oyster Bay as a practical east-side base between the Dutch and French sides. The day combines the colorful Dutch capital with elevated harbor views and a self-catering setup.
-
Princess HeightsPrincess Heights, Oyster Pond, Sint Maarten
Stay in a studio at Princess Heights for the east-side location, kitchen, large room, and balcony view. The kitchen makes a budget backpacker stay easier because you can cook and make coffee.
