Plan notes
Useful context before you go
This is a compact, nature-focused West Java trip built around one overnight village stay and two countryside excursions from Bandung. Pack a warm layer, hat, long trousers, comfortable shoes with strong grip, a sarung, dry clothes, a waterproof camera or action camera, and protection for bags and electronics. Kawah Putih sits at roughly 2,200 metres and can feel cold because of wind, while Curug Citambur becomes wetter, deeper, and more slippery during the rainy season. Download offline maps before leaving the city: mobile service disappears in the forest and countryside. If flying a drone, check current Indonesian rules and avoid launching near people, the river, or unstable terrain; the countryside route had unreliable connection. Wash strawberries before eating them. Useful source-backed prices include approximately 150,000 rupiah for a negotiated hat, 30,000 rupiah for a large roadside strawberry box, 70,000 rupiah per kilogram for organic strawberries, 35,000 rupiah for 100 grams of locally produced Arabica coffee, 200,000 rupiah for 100 grams of kopi luwak, and 1,000 rupiah for one tapioca-and-egg snack.

What is in this plan
Day 1: Bandung to Kawah Putih and the strawberry-growing highlands
Leave Bandung for the highland route and expect cooler, windier conditions as elevation increases. This phase combines the crater visit with locally produced food and strawberry stops. The secret crater approach described locally involves continuing beyond the parking area or arranging access with a local driver; confirm access conditions rather than assuming the route is public.

Kawah Putih EntranceKawah Putih Entrance, Ciwidey, West Java, Indonesia
Use the Kawah Putih entrance as the arrival point. Local stalls here sell warm soto, hats, gloves, and other useful cold-weather items. A hat was negotiated from 200,000 to 150,000 rupiah; the practical takeaway is to check the quality and bargain politely.

Try the soto Bandung near the entrance, with beef, rice, vegetables, jeruk nipis, and kerupuk. It is especially welcome before the colder, higher section of the visit.

Follow the locally described forest approach toward the crater only with a confirmed driver or guide. The route passes through jungle road and tea-growing highlands, and the connection may be unreliable.

Walk to the crater viewpoint and higher peak. The landscape opens into a large pale volcanic crater surrounded by high-elevation terrain. Allow time for the short uphill walk and pause if the altitude or wind feels uncomfortable.

Spend time at the constructed upper viewpoint, where visitors gather for music, conversation, group photos, and quiet moments overlooking the crater. Take all rubbish back out.

Buy a large box of roadside strawberries for approximately 30,000 rupiah. Keep them cool, avoid eating them before washing, and use the stop as a snack break after the crater.

Day 2: Citambur waterfall, village life and hot springs
This is the overnight village and West Bandung–Cianjur phase. Citambur is described as roughly one and a half to two hours from Bandung with stops, and the waterfall is only about 200 metres from parking. Visit on a weekday for fewer people, bring waterproof protection and a full change of clothes, and treat the wet rocks as a serious hazard.
-
Tea Plantation Coffee ShopTea plantation coffee shop near Citambur, Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia
Stop at the coffee shop overlooking the tea plantation for breakfast with a view. The source describes locally produced coffee and tea, including Arabica coffee for approximately 35,000 rupiah per 100 grams and kopi luwak for approximately 200,000 rupiah per 100 grams.

Citambur Countryside RoadCitambur, Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia
Take the countryside road through the tea-growing highlands and lower rice-growing areas. The road is described as wobbly in sections, so allow extra time and avoid rushing, especially after rain.

Curug CitamburCurug Citambur, Karangjaya, Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia
Arrive at Curug Citambur and use the nearby facilities before starting the walk. The approach from parking is short, but the waterfall trail becomes wet and slippery, particularly during the rainy season.

Curug CitamburCurug Citambur, Karangjaya, Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia
Follow the short trail toward the approximately 130-metre waterfall. The spray reaches the path well before the base, so keep cameras in waterproof protection and change into quick-drying clothing before continuing.

Curug CitamburCurug Citambur, Karangjaya, Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia
Walk down to the lower side and cross the small bridge, identified as a popular photo spot. Move carefully: the trail and rocks can be very slippery, and the creator became fully soaked during the visit.

Curug CitamburCurug Citambur, Karangjaya, Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia
Try the hot tapioca-and-egg snack sold near the waterfall after changing into dry clothes. It costs about 1,000 rupiah per piece and is best while warm with salt and chili sauce; it becomes harder as it cools.
